An Appalachian Folk Witch
From the time I was a child, these mountains spoke to me. They whispered of magic, of spirits and creatures just beyond my sight that were older than humanity itself. Secrets deep in the ancient coves and hidden crevices.
They stood tall around the edges of a childhood that was not safe, where adults could be cruel, and made me feel protected.
Like so many with deep family roots in these mountains, we had to move away when I was barely a teen. Years of longing, visits that were never long enough and bargains with the gods finally brought me back home in 2021, to a small farm a stones throw from my home in elementary school.
I’ve been a practicing Pagan for the better part of a decade now, and of course my focus is Appalachian Folk Magic. I honor the “Granny Women” in my own line as well as my other ancestors, generations of whom are buried within a few miles of my little farm. I work with the land spirits, especially the spirit of the mountain I live on. She has known and watched over me my entire life. I call her Grandmother Mountain.
As for gods, I work with those of northwestern Europe. I was a devotee of An Mòrrìgan for nearly 8 years, but nowadays I lean more toward the Norse pantheon. I work primarily with Freyr, Freyja and Thor, with Odin making occasional appearances.
But mostly, these mountains. They are my soul and pretty much everything you need to know about me. 💜
